Ladies gather around, next month you won’t have to feel bad for buying another lipstick, even if you have the same shade of pink in all brands. This September we are celebrating Liptember – a lighthearted and fun way to raise awareness and vital funds for women’s mental health.
During Liptember (September) we’ll be bold and wear bright coloured lipstick. Why? Lips are powerful, and when paired with bright, colourful lipstick, make a statement that can help spark a conversation: “The power to make a difference… truly on everyone’s lips.”
Having experienced anxiety of different degrees, I know from personal experience when I have wanted to feel better about myself, a bold and bright lipstick is what has always come to my rescue to help me face the world.
Mental health is crucial for everyone, regardless of gender. However, due to biological and gender related differences, women are often more susceptible to certain mental health conditions compared to men.
Women’s mental health can be influenced by a variety of factors – psychological, biological and social – evolving throughout our lives.
Biological factors such as menstruation, menopause, pregnancy, and childbirth, along with experiences like miscarriage, and ovarian or cervical cancer, can introduce unique mental health challenges specific to women.
However, it’s not just biology that affects women’s mental well-being. Life stages, as well as socioeconomic, political, and cultural factors related to being female, significantly impact the prevalence of mental health issues among those who identify as women.
Recognising these unique challenges, it is essential to offer tailored support services to prevent and manage mental illnesses, thereby improving the overall well-being of women dealing with existing mental health conditions.
That’s why Liptember are dedicated to conducting gender-specific mental health research. Their goal is to develop female-centric (or woman-centric) methodologies that inform new approaches to preventing, diagnosing, and treating mental illness, as well as designing support services and programs that meet the specific needs of women.
So, join me and the Interchange Bench team in getting behind a fun fundraiser which supports a serious issue – Womens Mental Health.

As for me, I’m on my way to Chemist Warehouse to purchase my Liptember lippy!
